Carlan [Sat 11 May, 16:35] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | Rental cars - (18 replies) I will be in Holguin and want to rent a car this time. Dose any one know the ins and outs. Better to make a reservation out side of Cuba or do it while I am there? Which company has best rates and cars etc etc. What to look out for and such. |
greslogo [Sat 11 May, 17:13] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 1. Best bet is to reserve before you arrive so you sure there will be a car waiting. For prices on a couple of companies.. check out http://www.nashtravel.com/carrental.html |
Bookeasytravel [Sat 11 May, 18:04] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 2. Car rental in Cuba I would recommend Cubacar - I personaly rented many times from them (last time in April). Their fleet is in the best shape(newest cars). If you plan on renting from them again each rental earns you 5% disscount on your next rental (up to 35% disscount max.) You can book your car via e-mail directly with Cubacar (7days in advance booking is required). As for Nashtravel Inc. - the prices that he shows in his Web Site - they are 20 to 25% higher than prices of originall supliers. Bon Voyage! Bookeasytravel@yahoo.com |
greslogo [Sat 11 May, 18:15] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 3. Really ? I checked Havanatos and Cubacar's web sites. http://www.cubacar.cubanacan.cu/english/rates1.asp http://www.havanautos.cu/frames/esp/cabecon.htm Cubacar's prices are the same Havanatos website prices are higher than Nash. Can you get me a car for 20-25% less than Nash lists them for Havanautos ? If you can I'll book through you for my next trip in early August. Let me know. |
Bookeasytravel [Sun 12 May, 13:15] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 4. Really!!! Cubacar Web Site has not been updated for more than 10 months now. The all other prices - for example for Viazul tickets are marked up 25 to 30% go to Viazul www.viazul.cu and have a good look. The same story is with air to Cuba from Canada (Toronto or Montreal) if you like to comper and see what COMMPETIVE PRICING MEANS GO TO www.belairtravel.com or www.sunholidays.ca or try exit.ca !!!!!!! Other than that you are free to book with |

greslogo [Sun 12 May, 14:31] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 6. You didn't answer my question "Can you get me a car for 20-25% less than Nash lists them for Havanautos ? If you can I'll book through you for my next trip in early August". I don't use Viazul when in Cuba. I fly on Lacsa and buy the tickets off their web site. I paid $420US in March (all taxes included). I'm pretty sure you can't beat that price. If you can, let me know. I don't have the luxury of waiting a week before my trip hoping for a last minute deal on Cubana or a charter. I usually go for 14+ days which rules the charters out anyway. I fly into Havana. I rent from Havanauto because I haven't found a better price for a suitable small car. So, again, if you can beat the Havanautos prices on Nahtravel's site for a Matiz, let me know. |
Bookeasytravel [Sun 12 May, 15:07] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 7. greslogo I do not book car rentals in Cuba. It is much better for anybody to book directly with the agencies in Cuba. With regards to Havanautos - my tip for you is book directly with them - they have simillar discount programm for repeated clients (up to 35%)so you will earn better rates for your next trips. Bon Voyage! Bookeasytravel@yahoo.com |
greslogo [Sun 12 May, 16:11] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 8. Excuse me but I assumed, from your alias and other posts on this site, that you were a travel agent. |
Bookeasytravel [Sun 12 May, 18:14] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 9. Yes But I and 99% other agencies(by choice) do not book car rentals in Cuba. It is much better for travellers to do this directly via e-mail or once in Cuba. |
greslogo [Sun 12 May, 18:53] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 10. Well Waiting till you arrive in Cuba to book. Ya, right. I can't count the times I've been at the counter with my voucher, at Jose Marti, and watching people being turned away because there were no cars left or only the luxury models at luxury prices left in the lot. That is why I don't "just show up". Dealing directly, by email, is not an option that I have tried in the past. You remined me that is doable. Thanks. I just emailed Havanautos and Cubacar about my August trip. We'll see what I get back in terms of pricing. |
cubanholliday [Sun 12 May, 22:04] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 11. Hello Greslogo... Not that I want you to become my client, but I was wondering why, after beeing so many times to Cuba you don't have a regular driver-car that will be cheaper that state car rental agencies and at the same time you don't need to worry about driving around after some beers, for example... Best regards... |
greslogo [Mon 13 May, 15:26] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 12. Although a good suggestion I like to come and go when I please, often on the spur of the moment. Having a driver shadowing me around 24/7 is not practical nor humane to the driver. Besides, I like air conditioning and some reasonable assurance that I will get back from where I am going. I just got an email reply from Havanautos after explaining that I pay $30/day for a Matiz from them through my travel agent and whether they can give me a better price. The rate they give me, $40, is MORE expensive than Bookeasytravel would have suggested, dealing directly with them. In fact, they emailed me a copy of their web page which you say is/may be out of date. Remind me not to use you to book my trips... lol |
greslogo [Mon 13 May, 15:34] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 13. So there is no misunderstanding I was referring to Bookeasytravel and the lame car advice when I said "Remind me not to use you to book my trips" |
Bookeasytravel [Mon 13 May, 17:06] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 14. Carlan=greslogo=nash ...no there is no misunderstanding! LOL!!! |
greslogo [Mon 13 May, 17:24] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 15. Who's Carlan ? I don't book my car through Nashtravel. I used to but the service sucked. He always came through but I didn't need the anxiety. What ? You can't dispute what I have said, so you divert attention by making some claims you cannot support and now come up with some inane suggestion that I am nash ? You don't book cars. You can't get me on a Lacsa flight for less than I what I pay. Put up or..... |
greslogo [Mon 13 May, 19:07] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 16. Carlin.... LOL.... oh that's the original poster. |
Hoz [Tue 14 May, 00:41] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 17. For greslogo What agency do you use to book your cars? Do they have a website? |
greslogo [Tue 14 May, 10:32] PST (Gumly Gumly -17) | 18. I've just sent you the information. |
